1994 (P) Lincoln Memorial Cent - P-1DER-002WST Trail Die Reverse

Description

Wavy steps, where trail lines run over the Memorial's staircase and warp its outline, are strong on 1994P-1DER-002WST under columns 5 through 9, and the left post with its urn shows some step bending too. The fluting lines of columns 1, 2 and 3 run strongly into the stylobate, and the bottoms of the EPU letters (E PLURIBUS UNUM) carry trails that follow the steps at 200°, south-southwest. The number gives 1994 Philadelphia, the cent's 1, DER for design extension reverse, file 002, and WST for wavy steps and trails. On the middle-die-state (stage B) coin, a gouge sits just below the U of TRUST, and scratching runs downward from the base's left tip to the O of ONE. Wavy steps, like other trails, are usually attributed to polishing of the die; some put them down to the die moving against the hub.
