1994 (P) Lincoln Memorial Cent - P-1DEO-010T Trail Die Obverse

Description

Light lines run from the IBE of LIBERTY on 1994P-1DEO-010T, directed due west at 270°, to the left. The number stands for 1994, the Philadelphia mint, the one-cent denomination, an obverse design extension (DEO), file 010, and trails (T). The coin described is at a very late die state (stage D). LIBERTY's B has a die dot inside its upper loop, a dent through the T came from a foreign object struck into the die, and another dot lies outside the upper loop of the date's first 9; on the reverse, a die chip clings to the left side of CENT's T. Bill Slaughter found the die. The lines are usually blamed on die polishing with a rotary tool, though a minority links them to die and hub moving against each other.
