1994 (P) Lincoln Memorial Cent - P-1DEO-009T Trail Die Obverse

Description

The trails on 1994P-1DEO-009T point straight up the coin, at 000°, due north toward the rim above LIBERTY. They are light and sit on the top left corners of LIBER. TrailDies' number marks a 1994 Philadelphia cent (1994P and 1), an obverse design extension (DEO), file 009 in its list for that date, and a T for trails. It describes a late die state (stage C): die damage on the lower part of Lincoln's bust on the obverse, and a die dent in bay 7 on the reverse. With such light lines, those two marks are the readiest way to tell this die from others with trails on LIBERTY. Rotary-buff polishing of the die is the explanation generally given for trails; some prefer die-to-hub movement.
