1994P-1DEO-003T Trail Die Obverse

Description

Recorded at an earlier die state than many of its siblings, 1994P-1DEO-003T is a Stage B mid-die-state (MDS) trail die obverse on the 1994 Philadelphia Lincoln Memorial cent. The obverse carries a die scratch in front of Lincoln's eyes, with additional die scratching visible under Lincoln's chin down to the bow tie — markers that trace a path across the portrait's facial features. No significant die markers were noted on the reverse at mid-die state. The Stage B designation indicates this die was still in active, moderate-wear condition when the trail die specimens were struck, contrasting with the late-die-state examples in the 1994-P trail die obverse series that show more advanced deterioration. Trail die obverse varieties on Lincoln cents are notably scarcer than reverse trail dies, making the 1994-P series — with twelve cataloged obverse entries — an unusually rich concentration.
