Description

Documented at Stage C in late die state, 1994P-1DEO-002T is a trail die obverse on the 1994 Philadelphia Lincoln Memorial cent distinguished by clear die markers on both sides of the coin. On the obverse, moderate to strong die scratches run through LIBERTY and the date, providing reliable attribution points that supplement the trail characteristics. On the reverse, a die crack appears on the base of column 3. The presence of die scratches through the very inscription that typically displays the trail effect (LIBERTY) creates an interesting diagnostic challenge: examiners must distinguish the intentional trail impressions — faint directional echoes caused by the displaced die — from the die scratches that independently mar the same letters. Cataloged by Trail Dies.

Die Markers

  • Stage “C”, obverse is LDS – moderate to strong die scratches through LIBERTY and the DATE.
  • Reverse is LDS – die crack on the base of column 3.
