1989 (D) Lincoln Memorial Cent - D-1DER-008T Trail Die Reverse

Description

1989D-1DER-008T has trails at 330°, northwest, from the motto, the upper ends of the right-hand columns of the Memorial, the right end of the cornice and the E, R, I, C and A of AMERICA. The number stands for 1989D (Denver date), 1 (cent), DER (design extension reverse), 008 (file) and T (trails). The same coin has a repunched mint mark that Coppercoins.com lists as 1989D-1MM-019, and TrailDies says this was the first trail die it found paired with that kind of variety. Middle-die-state markers: gouges above the T of LIBERTY and a gouge under the U of UNITED. Brian Ribar found it. Trails are usually blamed on polishing of the die with a rotary buff, though some blame the die moving against the hub.

• Reverse is MDS – a die gouge is seen under the U of UNITED. This is also RPM 198D-1MM-019.
