1989 (D) Lincoln Memorial Cent - D-1DER-005T Trail Die Reverse

Description

1989D-1DER-005T is a simple trail die with very few lines: two leave the top left corners of two AMERICA letters, the E and the R, and a third crosses over from the middle arm of the E. They point to 330°, northwest, toward the upper left. The number reads as 1989 Denver (1989D), TrailDies' cent reverse group (1DER), file 005 and trails (T). TrailDies lists no markers for either side of this early-state coin, so those few lines on AMERICA are what identify it. Trails are often said to result from polishing of the die with a rotary buff, though others say they result from the die moving against the hub.
