Description

1989D-1DER-001WS has a single wavy line: one fluting line from column 7 carries down across the stairs and bends the steps beneath it. The offset direction is 200°, south-southwest. TrailDies' code joins the 1989 date and Denver mint, the cent digit, DER for reverse design extension, file 001 and WS for wavy steps. On the middle-die-state coin it describes, a gouge lies to the left of the bottom of Lincoln's bust and a small gouge sits left of the T in UNITED. With only one line involved, the bend under column 7 is the thing to look for. Trails are generally traced to polishing of the die with a rotary buff, though some trace them to the die moving against the hub.
