1989 (D) Lincoln Memorial Cent - Repunched Mintmark WRPM-025

Description

1989-D WRPM-025 is a repunched mint mark on the 1989-D Lincoln Memorial cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. Wexler describes it as D/D South: the secondary D lies south of the primary one. On obverse Stage A, a faint scratch heads SSE off the 1's tail in the date, and a light gouge lies northeast of the upper eyelid. Right of the E in WE, heavy gouges are joined to a north-south scratch. At the B of VDB, on its northeast edge, there is a small gouge (dot), and another gouge is on the shoulder, well north of that B. On obverse Stage B, the SSE scratch from the 1 is now extremely faint, and every other Stage A marker is much weaker though still visible. Stage B adds a gouge touching the underside of the left side of the 8 in the date, a gouge south of the second T in TRUST, and several small gouges behind the lower hair. Reverse Stage A shows a gouge on the Memorial's left base, beneath column 1; a die chip and crack running from the O's upper right side into the N's upper left corner, both in ONE; and a pair of strong gouges east of the lower E in ONE. Reverse Stage B comes from a new reverse die: a tiny gouge lies in the field left of column 1, and there is a gouge north of the F in FG, in the field.
