Description

Showing D/D North repunching that is noted as nearly identical to WRPM-005 but with the mintmark positioned further south, WRPM-021 (Wexler variety ID 1989-D 1¢ WRPM-021) presents an intriguing cataloging case where two varieties share closely similar repunching characteristics yet originate from different working dies — distinguishable by the relative vertical position of their mintmarks. The obverse carries a die gouge right of the hair under R in TRUST and a die gouge left of the lower W in WE. The reverse shows a die gouge left of E in UNITED. The relationship between WRPM-021 and WRPM-005 highlights a phenomenon in RPM cataloging where similar punch dynamics can produce nearly identical repunching patterns on different dies, with the confirmation of separate variety status depending on precise measurement of supplementary die markers and overall mintmark positioning. No cross-references to CONECA or Coppercoins are currently known. The sparse but strategically positioned die markers — in the hair detail, the WE legend, and the UNITED text — provide enough differentiation points for attribution. Struck on copper-plated zinc planchets (97.5% zinc, 2.5% copper) at 2.5 grams and 19mm.
