1989-D Repunched Mintmark WRPM-019

Description

Exhibiting a D/D Tilted orientation, WRPM-019 (Wexler variety ID 1989-D 1¢ WRPM-019) is documented with die markers on both surfaces that emphasize Lincoln Memorial architectural details on the reverse. The obverse carries die scratches running north through TY in LIBERTY. The reverse features four distinct markers concentrated around the memorial structure and surrounding text: a die gouge (dot) in the memorial base directly under column 1, a gouge (dot) under memorial bay 2, a light gouge (dot) under the left side of D in UNITED, and a gouge left of the bottom of U in UNITED. The dot-shaped gouges on the reverse — small circular impressions at specific architectural reference points — are among the most precise supplementary markers available for die identification, as their exact positions relative to memorial columns and bays are unique to this working die. No cross-references to CONECA or Coppercoins are currently known, making the Wexler listing the primary attribution source. The tilted repunching orientation combines positional offset with angular misalignment between successive mintmark punch applications. Struck on copper-plated zinc planchets (97.5% zinc, 2.5% copper) at 2.5 grams and 19mm.
