Description

Like WRPM-016, this replacement listing was assigned after the original WRPM-017 was determined to carry a damaged mintmark punch rather than a true repunching event. The current WRPM-017 (Wexler variety ID 1989-D 1¢ WRPM-017) is a D/D Tilted repunched mintmark with die markers distributed across both legend and architectural design elements. The obverse shows die scratches running north from LIBE in LIBERTY, die gouges above and under the right side of B in LIBERTY, and a gouge above the left side of T in LIBERTY. The reverse features die scratches running north-northwest in all memorial bays, a light die gouge (dot) in bay 9, die scratches running north-northwest into E in UNITED, a gouge right of the upper R in AMERICA, a gouge just right and below the second A in AMERICA, and a die scratch running north-northwest from the upper right N in ONE. The pervasive north-northwest die scratches across all memorial bays on the reverse suggest a systematic contact event affecting the entire lower die face, creating a distinctive directional pattern unique to this working die. Struck on copper-plated zinc planchets (97.5% zinc, 2.5% copper) at 2.5 grams and 19mm.
