1988 (D) Lincoln Memorial Cent - Repunched Mintmark WRPM-008

Description

1988-D WRPM-008 is a repunched mint mark on the 1988-D Lincoln Memorial cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. Wexler describes it as D/D Tilted: the secondary D sits at an angle to the primary one. On the obverse, a gouge lies at the rim SE of the mint mark. Other gouges sit right of the upper chin, right of the upper lip, north of the DB in VDB, and directly south of the base of the I in IN. Gouges also appear under the LI of LIBERTY, and one more lies far south of LIBERTY's R. On the reverse, the E in STATES has a gouge inside its upper opening, and another sits left of the lower part of the O in OF. A gouge runs north from the die dot after UNUM, and a gouge lies above the left side of the second A in AMERICA. John Bordner submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references.
