Description

Exhibiting a D/D Tilted repunching, WRPM-008 in the Wexler catalog is distinguished by an extensive array of die markers distributed across both surfaces of the coin. The obverse features a gouge southeast of the mintmark near the rim, gouges at Lincoln's chin and lip, a gouge north of the DB in the designer's initials VDB, a gouge south of the I in IN, and gouges under the LI and R in LIBERTY. The reverse carries its own constellation of markers: a gouge in the E in STATES, a gouge left of the O in OF, a gouge north from UNUM, and a gouge above the A in AMERICA. No cross-references to CONECA or Coppercoins catalogs are currently known for this variety, making the Wexler designation the primary identification. The density of supplementary die markers on this variety — more than a dozen distinct gouges and scratches beyond the repunching itself — provides collectors with ample reference points for attribution even when examining heavily circulated specimens. Struck at the Denver Mint on copper-plated zinc planchets (97.5% zinc, 2.5% copper) at 2.5 grams and 19mm. D/D Tilted Die Markers: Obverse: Die gouge southeast of mint mark at rim. Die gouge right of upper chin. Die gouge north of DB in VDB. Die gouge directly south of bottom of I in IN. Die gouges under LI in LIBERTY. Die gouge far south under R in LIBERTY. Reverse: Die gouge shows inside the upper opening of the E in STATES. Die gouge left of lower O in OF. Die gouge running north from die dot after UNUM. Die gouge above left side of second A in AMERICA.
