1987 (D) Roosevelt Dime - Repunched Mintmark WRPM-001

Description

The primary repunched mintmark variety for the 1987-D Roosevelt Dime, WRPM-001 is cross-referenced as CONECA RPM #1, confirming its status as the most significant RPM for this date. Repunched mintmarks on Roosevelt Dimes from the 1980s represent some of the latest examples of hand-punched mintmark varieties, as the Mint transitioned to placing mintmarks directly on the master die in 1990 for cents and 1991 for other denominations — effectively ending new RPM varieties on circulating coinage. The 1987-D was struck at the Denver Mint in copper-nickel clad, with John R. Sinnock's Roosevelt portrait on the obverse and the torch, olive branch, and oak branch reverse. Because the D mintmark was individually punched into each working die, slight variations in placement were inevitable, and WRPM-001 documents the most prominent such variation for 1987. Cross-referenced as Wexler Variety ID 1987-D 10-cent WRPM-001, this variety serves as an accessible entry point for collectors interested in late-era RPM varieties, struck in sufficient quantities to appear occasionally in circulation finds and dealer stock.
