Description
Moderate trails come off the heads of the letters in LIBERTY on 1985D-1DEO-002T, offset toward 350°, a little west of due north. Its code splits into 1985D (Denver, 1985), 1 (cent), DEO (the obverse design extension category), 002 (the file) and T (trails). The coin is from the middle of the die's life (stage B). Two obverse markers stand out: a gouge hugging the left edge of the E in WE, and a small die dot on the line of Lincoln's vest, level with the 1 of the date. No reverse markers are recorded. Aisha Shahid found the die. Trails are usually traced to the die being polished with a rotary buff, though some attribute them to the die moving against the hub.
