1985-D Repunched Mintmark WRPM-001

Description

The primary repunched mint mark in the Wexler catalog for 1985-D, WRPM-001 shows a D/D Southeast displacement and is cross-referenced by CONECA as RPM #1 and by Coppercoins as 1985D-1MM-001. This triple-source confirmation — Wexler, CONECA, and Coppercoins — makes it one of the most thoroughly documented RPMs for this date. Two die stages are recorded with distinct markers. Stage A features a die gouge on the lapel crease approximately one-third up from the bottom on the obverse, and a die chip on the left side of the Memorial base above the O in ONE on the reverse. By Stage B, both Stage A markers persist but the reverse develops die cracks at the tops of columns one, ten, and twelve, with an additional crack closer to center on column two — a pattern of progressive structural failure radiating across the Memorial's facade. The southeast direction means the secondary D impression sits below and to the right of the primary mint mark. Struck on copper-plated zinc planchets at 2.5 grams and 19mm from Denver's 1985 production of approximately 5.65 billion cents (Wexler ID: 1985-D 1¢ WRPM-001).
