1985 (D) Lincoln Memorial Cent - Repunched Mintmark WRPM-028

Description

1985-D WRPM-028 is a repunched mint mark on the 1985-D Lincoln Memorial cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. Wexler describes it as D/D North, meaning the secondary D lies north of the primary one. On the obverse, gouges show inside the lower loop of the 8 in the date and along its lower left edge. Light horizontal scratches extend east off Lincoln's upper lip, there are patches of die damage in the field under IN, and a small gouge (dot) sits in the lower opening of the ear. On the reverse, a gouge lies right of the lower part of AMERICA's first A, and a row of three closely spaced gouges shows in the upper part of Memorial bay 1. Die roughness appears around and inside the O of ONE, a series of gouges sits in the lower opening of ONE's E, and a gouge marks the N in CENT along its right edge. Brian Ribar submitted the variety.
