1985 (D) Lincoln Memorial Cent - Repunched Mintmark WRPM-026

Description

Carrying a Coppercoins cross-reference of 1985D-1MM-014, WRPM-026 on the 1985-D Lincoln Memorial cent is notable for die scratches along the rim above LIBERTY and a separate scratch along the rim under VDB on the obverse — features near the coin's periphery that can survive even on moderately circulated specimens. Two groups of mostly parallel die scratches appear under the lower bust area, while a pair of die gouges flank the lower 1 in the date to the southwest and southeast. A die gouge near Lincoln's hair under the O in GOD rounds out the obverse markers. The reverse carries gouges along the lower right edge of the first S in STATES, a series of gouges around the N and T in CENT, and a pair of gouges to the left of and inside the O in ONE. The rim-level scratches on the obverse are particularly valuable for authentication on circulated coins, where interior field markers may have worn smooth but rim features often remain legible.
