1985-D Repunched Mintmark WRPM-019

Description

Cross-referenced by CONECA as RPM #10, WRPM-019 on the 1985-D Lincoln Memorial cent exhibits a D/D Tilted displacement — the secondary mint mark impression rotated relative to the primary punch. Two die stages have been documented, each with distinctive obverse and reverse markers. Stage A carries a die gouge on the front of Lincoln's vest directly west of the lower mint mark and another gouge below the last T in TRUST. By Stage B, the obverse develops a die gouge under the T in LIBERTY and a second gouge left of the mint mark, signaling progressive die deterioration. The reverse tells a parallel story: Stage A shows two parallel die scratches running east from the right cornice into the area under the I and C in AMERICA, while Stage B adds a die break on lower column 8 — a structural failure indicating the reverse die was approaching retirement. The CONECA RPM #10 designation places this among the later-attributed repunched mint marks for the date. Struck on copper-plated zinc planchets composed of 97.5% zinc and 2.5% copper, weighing 2.5 grams and measuring 19mm, from Denver's 1985 mintage of approximately 5.65 billion cents (Wexler ID: 1985-D 1¢ WRPM-019).
