1985-D Repunched Mintmark WRPM-011
ErrorDescription
Exhibiting a D/D North displacement, WRPM-011 on the 1985-D Lincoln Memorial cent shows the secondary mint mark impression above the primary punch — a less common direction among the 1985-D RPM population, where southerly and easterly shifts predominate. Cross-referenced by CONECA as RPM #4 and Coppercoins as 1985D-1MM-004, this variety is distinguished by heavy reverse die scratches that create unmistakable diagnostics. Die scratches sweep from the left Memorial roof and left cornice tip through TED in UNITED, with additional north-northwest oriented scratches visible in Memorial bays 1, 2, 3, 8, 9, 10, and 11. Vertical die cracks on columns 1 and 2 signal advancing structural deterioration. The obverse carries a die gouge left of the upper E in LIBERTY and a tiny gouge right of the upper I in IN. The reverse also shows east-west scratches through C, E, and N in CENT and a gouge in the lower opening of the E in AMERICA. This extensive scratching pattern suggests aggressive die maintenance or polishing during production. Struck on copper-plated zinc planchets at 2.5 grams and 19mm from Denver's 1985 output of approximately 5.65 billion cents (Wexler ID: 1985-D 1¢ WRPM-011).
