Description

Exceptionally well-documented across three die stages, WRPM-002 on the 1985-D Lincoln Memorial cent carries one of the most detailed die marker profiles in the Wexler catalog for this date. Cross-referenced by Coppercoins as 1985D-1MM-020, this variety's Stage A obverse shows a small die gouge right of the front hair curl, while the reverse features die chips near the first S in STATES, die gouges left of the O in ONE, left of the N in CENT, and right of the M in AMERICA. By Stage B, the obverse develops die scratches southwest of the 1 in the date, southeast from the beard and chin, and running from Lincoln's jacket toward the Y in LIBERTY, while the reverse gains distinctive die scratches above the N and T of CENT. Stage C retains the Stage B markers in weakened form. This progression from localized gouges to widespread scratching documents the die's full lifecycle.
