Description

This 1977-S Proof Eisenhower Dollar exhibits moderate Class II doubling on IN GOD WE TRUST, the date, and LIBERTY, attributed by the Wexler Team and cross-referenced as CONECA 2-O-I and 1977-S $1 Pr WDDO-003. Obverse die markers are precisely documented: a faint die scratch extends northeast from the lower right portion of the I in IN; a faint die scratch runs parallel and just west of the second 7 in the date; and a die gouge marks the middle right horizontal bar of the B in LIBERTY. An additional diagnostic is a die scratch running along the jaw on the neck nearly parallel to the jawline. No reverse die markers were noted. Eisenhower Dollars were produced from 1971 to 1978, designed by Frank Gasparro, in copper-nickel clad for circulation and 40% silver for collector issues. Proof strikes were made only at San Francisco. Class II Distorted Hub Doubling on the obverse of a proof dollar is attractive under magnification and can be distinguished from machine doubling by the true separated relief of the doubled elements. The CONECA 2-O-I classification confirms the doubling class and hub-to-die transfer mechanism recorded by that reference system. Reverse: None noted.Submitted By: Tim Wissert (Photos by Billy G.
