Description

DDO-001, which Wexler numbers WDDO-001, is a doubled die obverse on the 1973-D Kennedy half dollar with a strong spread on all its lettering and the date. Both catalogs list it as FS-101 (Wexler writes it FS-50-1973D-101 (014.8)). Wexler's Coins and Die Varieties records a strong clockwise (CW) spread on IN GOD WE TRUST, the date and LIBERTY. Nothing significant is noted on the obverse. On the reverse, above the first L of DOLLAR, a die scratch runs SW/NE, and over the A of HALF two scratches cross in an X. The coin was submitted by John A. Wexler, and CONECA lists the die as 1-O-I. VarietyVista credits Robert C. Wilharm with the report. Under its marker codes UVC-209 and DMR-002, an early stage A is unconfirmed; at stage B obverse and reverse are in a middle die state, and at stage C both are in a late die state.

Die Markers
