Description

1970-S WDDO-020 is a doubled die obverse on the 1970-S Lincoln Memorial cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. Its doubling appears beneath the crossbar of LIBERTY's L and above the crossbar of the date's 7. Wexler lists three obverse stages for this die. Stage A has a short SW-running scratch off the upper left of the 7, plus a north-south scratch in the gap between WE's E and the first T in TRUST. Stage B has short scratches running west from the back of the bust and a scratch that curves south off the lower left of GOD's G. At Stage C, all of the earlier markers have faded badly or vanished. On the reverse at Stage A, one gouge is right of the base of UNITED's N, another is beneath the first S of STATES, and there is pitting above the Memorial's right base. Reverse Stage B has many NW/SE scratches on the Memorial's left. At reverse Stage C, there is a small gouge at the bottom of the third bay of the Memorial and another under the E of E PLURIBUS UNUM. Stage A was submitted by John A. Wexler, and Stage B and Stage C by Frank Baumann. Wexler lists no cross-references.
