1970 (S) Lincoln Memorial Cent - Small Date - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-019

Description

1970-S WDDO-019 is a doubled die obverse on the 1970-S Lincoln Memorial cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. The doubling shows under the crossbar of LIBERTY's L and over the crossbar of the 7 in the date. At obverse Stage A, a long SSW/NNE scratch runs well above the B in LIBERTY; Wexler notes it can be seen on every recorded stage of the variety. Obverse Stage B shows faint clash traces to the left of the neck's back. At obverse Stage C, strong clash marks from two Memorial bays appear in that same spot, and a very strong horizontal clash mark stretches from the vest front to the lower 1 in the date. On the reverse at Stage A, a gouge touches the upper right of UNITED's N. At reverse Stage B, the obverse is paired with another reverse die, which shows a small gouge left of the left Memorial base. At reverse Stage C, clash traces appear over the right roof. Bill Wilson submitted Stage A, and John A. Wexler submitted Stage B and Stage C. Wexler lists no cross-references.
