Description

Displaying doubling below the L in LIBERTY and above the 7 in the date, WDDO-009 on the 1970 Lincoln Memorial cent shares its general doubling locations with WDDO-002 — but the two originate from different dies distinguished by their unique die marker profiles. A particularly notable marker on WDDO-009 is the set of die gouges extending from the lower vest area south of the 1 in the date — small incuse marks in the die steel that appear as raised bumps on struck specimens in the field below Lincoln's bust. These gouges provide a reliable screening tool: their location in the relatively open field south of the date makes them visible under moderate magnification without navigating fine design details. No cross-references to CONECA or Coppercoins have been established. The dual-location doubling — LIBERTY and date — indicates a hub misalignment broad enough to affect elements in different obverse quadrants. Distinguishing WDDO-009 from WDDO-002 requires side-by-side die marker comparison rather than reliance on doubling location alone. A short, nearly horizontal die scratch connects the lower L and I in LIBERTY. Reverse: A die scratch runs from NNW to SSE through the lower part of the left Memorial base. Two parallel die scratches run from the upper left O in ONE to the bottom of the Memorial.
