1970 Lincoln Memorial Cent - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-001

Description

1970 WDDO-001 is a doubled die obverse on the 1970 Lincoln Memorial cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. A strong Class I clockwise (CW) spread shows on IN GOD WE TRUST, LIBERTY and the date. Obverse, Stage A: NNW to SSE scratches lie right of the forehead, nose and lips. Stage B is a very late die state (VLDS), and abrasion and/or wear has removed the Stage A scratches. On the reverse, Stage A has a north-south scratch inside the U of UNITED, many SW to NE scratches through the letters of ONE, and many west-to-east scratches between CENT and the base of the Memorial. Stage B is also a very late die state, with the Stage A scratches abraded and/or worn away. Submitters: Tony Russo (Stage A) and John A. Wexler (Stage B).
