1970 Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-003

Description

Classified as a Class I counterclockwise spread, WDDO-003 on the 1970 Lincoln Memorial cent exhibits doubling on IN GOD WE TRUST, LIBERTY, and the date — the same three zones affected by WDDO-001 but with the hub rotation running in the opposite direction. Where WDDO-001's clockwise rotation displaces elements in one arc, WDDO-003's counterclockwise rotation shifts them along a mirror-image trajectory, producing visually distinct doubling geometry. A notable die gouge south of the E in LIBERTY serves as an independent identification marker — this incuse mark in the die steel appears as a raised bump on struck specimens. Cross-referenced as Coppercoins 1970P-1DO-008, WDDO-003 has documentation in both the Wexler and Coppercoins systems, though no CONECA listing exists.
