Description

Displaying a medium spread that manifests as an extra bar over the 7 of the date, DDO-002 on the 1970 Lincoln Memorial cent is the second cataloged doubled die obverse for this Philadelphia Mint issue. Tracked under die markers UVC-2234 and DMR-003, this variety arose from misalignment between successive hub impressions during die preparation. The medium-strength spread places it in the middle tier of visibility among 1970-P DDOs: stronger than light-spread varieties where magnification is essential, yet not reaching the dramatic separation seen on DDO-001. The extra bar over the 7 is the primary diagnostic — collectors should examine the top of the digit under 10x magnification, looking for a secondary line tracing the curve above its normal position.
