Description
The 1970 (D) Kennedy Half Dollar is a half dollar produced at the Denver Mint as part of the Kennedy Half Dollars Silver Clad 1965-1970 series. The U.S. Mint produced 2.1 million examples, making this the lower-mintage of the two mint variants. The obverse features John F. Kennedy facing left, based on the presidential medal by Gilroy Roberts and the reverse displays the Presidential Seal β a heraldic eagle with shield, olive branch, and arrows. The final year of silver-content Kennedy Half Dollars for circulation. Only the 1970-D was struck for circulation; the 1970-S appears only in proof and mint sets. Struck at the Denver Mint, established in 1906 from an earlier assay office that processed Colorado gold rush metal. Estimated market value ranges from $16 to $101 depending on grade and condition. Struck in 40% silver, 60% copper, weighing 11.5 grams, 30.61 mm in diameter, with a 150 reeds edge. Cataloged as PCGS #6713.
