1968-S Doubled Die Obverse DDO-007

Description

A multi-variety die of considerable complexity, this 1968-S Proof Roosevelt Dime DDO-007 shows very light extra thickness on LIBERTY and is cross-referenced as FS-801. Die markers include UVC-518 and DMR-009. Three die stages document the progression: Stage A in early die state (unconfirmed); Stage B with the obverse at mid-die state and the reverse — listed as DDR-001 — also at mid-die state; and Stage C in late die state (unconfirmed). The reverse carries the RDV-001 designation (weak flame reverse design variety), making this a triple-variety coin: DDO-007 obverse, DDR-001 reverse, and RDV-001 design variety all converge on a single die pair. The 1968-S issue marks the first year San Francisco resumed proof production after the 1965-1967 hiatus when proof sets were suspended during the coin shortage.
