1968 (S) Proof Roosevelt Dime - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-001

Description

1968-S WDDR-001 is a doubled die reverse on the 1968-S proof Roosevelt dime, cataloged by the Wexler team. The doubling is a Class V clockwise (CW) spread pivoting near 1:00. It shows on UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, ONE DIME and E PLU, on the bottom of the oak branch and the lower oak leaves, and on the left side of the flames. Wexler notes no significant obverse markers. The reverse is the Type 1 reverse. Inside the lower part of the R in AMERICA there is a vertical die gouge, and another gouge lies inside the lower C of AMERICA. John A. Wexler submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references. The specimen examined was a late die state (LDS), and Wexler adds that the doubling may be stronger on an earlier die state. Wexler includes it in its "Best Of" varieties.
