Description

RPM-001 is a repunched mint mark on a 1968-S Lincoln Memorial cent, a business strike. VarietyVista lists it as S/S North, with a secondary S north of the primary, and gives die markers UVC-918 and DMR-002; its 1968-S index does not mark it as a proof. In Stage A the obverse is in early die state and the reverse in mid die state; Stage B (mid die state) and Stage C (late die state) are listed but unconfirmed. Mint marks returned to U.S. coins in 1968 after the 1965-67 pause, and each working die again received its mint mark by hand punch, so an off-target first blow could be corrected with a second one that left part of the first S visible. The coin was struck at the San Francisco Assay Office on a 3.11-gram, 19.05 mm planchet of 95% copper and 5% zinc.
