1964 Proof Kennedy Half Dollar - Accented Hair - Doubled Die Reverse DDR-005

Description

Exhibiting strong triple spread on UNITED, HALF DOLLAR, and stars clockwise from K-5 to K-9, with double spread on all remaining lettering and stars around the rim, this fifth DDR for the 1964 Kennedy Half Dollar is among the more visually dramatic varieties in the silver-composition series. Struck as a Proof with the ODV-001 Accented Hair obverse paired with the RDV-001 Straight G reverse, this die pairing places it within the coveted first-year subset of Kennedy halves. Die stage documentation tracks three states under UVC-034 and DMR-034: Stage A with reverse and obverse in Early Die State, Stage B at Mid-Die State, and Stage C in Late Die State (unconfirmed). Cataloged by VarietyVista, the triple spread on multiple design elements indicates a severe hub misalignment that produced overlapping images visible without high magnification. The 1964 Kennedy Half Dollar carries enormous historical significance as the memorial issue honoring President John F. Kennedy, and the Accented Hair subvariety where extra detail shows in the hair above Kennedy's ear adds a further layer of collectibility that elevates this DDR above typical doubled die listings.
