1964 Proof Kennedy Half Dollar - Accented Hair - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-002

Description

1964 WDDR-002 is a doubled die reverse on the 1964 proof Kennedy half dollar (Accented Hair), cataloged by the Wexler team. The reverse is quadrupled, a strong Class II spread toward the center, on USA (UNITED STATES OF AMERICA), HALF DOLLAR, the dots, the ring of stars and the stars over E PLURIBUS UNUM (EPU). The designer's initials and the outer arrows are doubled too, and the point of the top olive leaf is tripled. The obverse is the Accented Hair type and carries master die doubling from WMDO-002. On the reverse the G in FG is straight, and above the first A in AMERICA a short gouge reaches in from the rim. Jennifer Casazza submitted the variety, and CONECA lists it as 3-R-II. Wexler notes it was first listed as WDDR-017 and was renumbered because recognizing the reverse doubled master dies had left many gaps in the listings. Wexler includes it in its "Best Of" varieties.
