1964 Proof Kennedy Half Dollar - Accented Hair - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-008

Description

1964 WDDO-008 is a doubled die obverse on the 1964 proof Kennedy half dollar (Accented Hair), cataloged by the Wexler team. Strong Class II doubling, spread toward the center, is seen on LIBERTY, IN and the upper hair details; GOD WE TRUST and the date show a lesser spread. The obverse is the Accented Hair type. A small gouge (dot) sits just south of the D in GOD, under its left side, and another small gouge (dot) is on the neck, midway from the ear to the designer's initials. The reverse has the straight G in FG. Richard Imburgia submitted the variety, and CONECA lists it as 15-O-II. Wexler notes it was previously WDDO-032 and received a new number to help fill the many gaps in the listings created when three obverse doubled working hubs were discovered. Wexler includes it in its "Best Of" varieties.
