1964 Proof Kennedy Half Dollar - Accented Hair - Doubled Die Reverse DDR-003

Description

Among the most dramatic proof Kennedy half dollar varieties, DDR-003 of the 1964 issue displays medium quadruple spread on the stars below UNITED, triple spread on almost all lettering and stars around the rim, and double spread on the designer's initials, arrows, and claws. Cross-referenced as FS-802, this variety is paired with the ODV-001 (Accented Hair) obverse and the RDV-001 (Straight G) reverse. Cataloged under UVC-032 and DMR-032, three die stages are documented: Stage A with early die state on both obverse and reverse, Stage B as mid-die state (unconfirmed), and Stage C as late die state (unconfirmed). The quadruple spread represents four distinct hub impressions on the working die, an exceptional occurrence that produced layered doubling of varying intensity across the reverse. As a first-year Kennedy half dollar proof struck in 90% silver, this Accented Hair die marriage with quadruple reverse doubling is a landmark variety in the series.
