The first cataloged doubled working hub reverse for the inaugural 1964-D Kennedy Half Dollar, WWHR-001 represents a class of doubling that occurred when the working hub was impressed into the working die — a stage earlier in the die manufacturing chain than standard doubled dies. Cataloged under Wexler Variety ID 1964-D 50c WWHR-001, this variety is significant because working hub doubling can potentially propagate to multiple working dies produced from the same hub, unlike a standard doubled die which affects only a single die. The 1964-D Kennedy Half Dollar was struck on 90% silver planchets in massive quantities as the public eagerly acquired the new design honoring President John F.
