1963 Doubled Die Reverse DDR-016
Error
Description
Cataloged as UVC-416 / DMR-023, this doubled die reverse on the 1963 Roosevelt Dime shows spread on UNITED STATES, ONE DIME, and E PLU — the abbreviated reference to E PLURIBUS UNUM where the doubling is most readily detected. The 1963 Roosevelt Dime was struck at Philadelphia in 90% silver, part of the penultimate year of silver dime production before the Coinage Act of 1965 ended the 90% silver standard that had persisted since 1946. Sixteen doubled die reverses documented for the 1963 date reflects active research on a year that saw heavy production as the Mint raced to meet demand during the emerging coin shortage of the early 1960s. John R. Sinnock's design, with its torch flanked by olive and oak branches on the reverse, carries fine detail that readily reveals hub doubling under magnification. DDR-016 attributed by VarietyVista. Silver Roosevelt Dime varieties from 1963 appeal to collectors who value both the pre-1965 silver content and the die variety documentation.
