Description

Cataloged by the Wexler Team as WDDO-002 on the 1962-D Washington Silver Quarter, this doubled die obverse exhibits a close clockwise spread from a pivot point at approximately the 2:00 position, affecting the date and IN GOD WE TRUST. The pivoted clockwise mechanism means the hub rotated slightly on its axis between impressions, with the pivot point near 2:00 serving as the stationary anchor while elements farther from that point show progressively greater displacement — creating an asymmetric doubling pattern that intensifies with distance from the pivot. Obverse die markers include a strong die scratch running northeast from the lower right of the L in LIBERTY, a strong die crack across the base of the bust extending into the lower ribbon, a die chip on this crack at the back of the bust, and a die crack running east-west through the hair to the right of the top of the forehead. No significant reverse die markers were noted. Cross-referenced as Wexler Variety ID 1962-D 25-cent WDDO-002 with no other known attributions, this variety represents one of the documented doubled die obverses for the Denver Mint issue.
