Description
1961PR-1DEO-001T is TrailDies' first file for a 1961 proof Lincoln cent obverse with trails. The number decodes as the date with PR for proof, 1 for the cent, DEO for a design extension on the obverse, file 001, and T for trails. The trails come off the letters RTY in LIBERTY and run to the southwest, at an offset direction of 220°, toward the lower left of the coin. TrailDies notes they are not easy to pick up at first: angling the coin under a lamp, or resting it on a sloped stand, makes them far easier to catch. Joe Koelling of North Carolina found the die. Trails like these are usually put down to polishing of the die with a rotary buff, though some attribute them to the die moving against the hub.
