1960 Proof Roosevelt Dime - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-016 / DDO-004

Description

DDO-004, which Wexler numbers WDDO-016, is a doubled die obverse on the 1960 proof Roosevelt dime with a medium spread on the date, on IN GOD WE TRUST, and on the designer's initials, which double side by side. Both catalogs cite it as FS-103 in the Cherrypickers' Guide (Wexler writes FS-10-1960-103). Wexler's Coins and Die Varieties describes a spread toward the NE on IN GOD WE TRUST, the date and the designer's initials, and lists no significant obverse markers. Its reverse is a minor doubled die that Wexler files as WDDR-006 for the 1960 proof dime, with a very close spread toward the center on UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and ONE DIME. Tony Russo submitted the coin, and CONECA lists the die as 4-O-IV+VIII. VarietyVista credits Delma K. Romines with the report. Under its marker codes UVC-337 and DMR-006, both sides are in an early die state at stage A; stage B (a middle die state) and stage C (a late die state) are unconfirmed.
