Description

Cataloged by the Wexler Team as 1960 10c Pr WDDO-007, this proof Roosevelt Silver Dime displays a medium spread toward the center visible on IGWT (In God We Trust), the date, and the designer's initials JS (John R. Sinnock), with lighter spread on LIBERTY. The center-directed spread pattern indicates the secondary hub impression converged inward relative to the primary, concentrating the displacement on inscription elements nearest the coin's periphery where the inward shift produces the greatest visible separation. Obverse die markers include three north-south die scratches between the designer's initials and the 1 of the date. The reverse carries an extensive set of diagnostic markers: a die chip centered between the E and D of UNITED, a die chip between the T and E of UNITED near the bottom, a die scratch running through the bottom vertical bar of the E and the upper vertical bar of the T in UNITED, and two die chips on the lower first S of STATES. No cross-references to other cataloging systems are currently known. As a proof strike from the Philadelphia Mint, this coin was manufactured on specially polished planchets using polished dies, producing mirror-like fields that enhance the visibility of even subtle doubling against the reflective surface. The 1960 proof Roosevelt Dime was struck in 90% silver composition (90% silver, 10% copper) weighing 2.50 grams with a diameter of 17.9 mm. John R. Sinnock designed the Roosevelt portrait that has appeared on the obverse since 1946. The rich set of reverse die markers — multiple die chips and scratches concentrated around UNITED and STATES — provides strong attribution confirmation independent of the obverse doubling itself.
