1960 Proof Roosevelt Dime - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-004

Description

1960 WDDO-004 is a doubled die obverse on the 1960 proof Roosevelt dime, cataloged by the Wexler team. Light doubling shows on the designer's initials, the hair over the ear and on the back of the head, and the eyelid. A die chip sits in the hollow above the eyelid where the forehead begins, and a die chip (dot) lies just right of the vertical bar and over the horizontal bar of LIBERTY's L. The reverse is a doubled die, carried in Wexler's doubled die files as 1960 proof WDDR-001, with a strong clockwise (CW) spread on every letter and dot around the rim, E PLURIBUS UNUM and the right stem, strongest on UNITED. On the left-hand side, die chips mark the leaves that touch the torch holder, and another die chip sits on the left side of STATES's A, between its center and top. Frank Baumann submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references.
