1960 Proof Roosevelt Dime - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-011 / DDO-001

Description

DDO-001, which Wexler numbers WDDO-011, is a doubled die obverse on the 1960 proof Roosevelt dime with medium spread visible on IN GOD WE TRUST, LIBERTY and the designer's initials. Both catalogs cite it as FS-101 in the Cherrypickers' Guide (Wexler writes FS-10-1960-101). Wexler's Coins and Die Varieties describes a spread toward the center on LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, the date and the designer's initials. Its one marker is a gouge just left of the eye on the obverse; it lists nothing significant on the reverse. John A. Wexler submitted the coin, and CONECA lists the die as 1-O-II. VarietyVista, crediting Allen R. Levy, records the medium spread on LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, the date and the designer's initials (top to bottom). Under its marker codes UVC-334 and DMR-003, stage A is an early die state it has not confirmed. At stage B, a middle die state on both sides, a gouge sits in front of the eyeball. At stage C both sides are in a late die state.
