Description

Strong center-directed spread distinguishes this proof-only doubled die obverse on a 1960 Roosevelt Dime, with visible doubling on IN GOD WE TRUST, the date, designer's initials, and the L of LIBERTY. The center-directed pattern indicates the hub pushed design elements inward during hubbing, producing distinctive convergent doubling on peripheral elements. Attributed by the Wexler Team under Wexler Variety ID 1960 10c Pr WDDO-010, the die carries distinctive markers on both sides: NE-to-SW die scratches crossing the E of LIBERTY and a die chip at the circumference of the 6 in the date on the obverse, plus die chips on the bottom of D in UNITED on the reverse. Multiple die markers across both sides make attribution straightforward once the primary doubling is identified. As a proof issue struck at Philadelphia, this 1960 Roosevelt Dime was produced on polished planchets with polished dies, and the mirror-like proof surfaces can make doubled die features more visible than on business strikes. Proof doubled die varieties are sought by collectors who value the combination of proof quality and verifiable die variety attribution.
