1959 (D) Lincoln Memorial Cent - Repunched Mintmark WRPM-012

Description

1959-D WRPM-012 is a repunched mint mark on the 1959-D Lincoln Memorial cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. Wexler describes it as D/D/D North & Tilted (Rotated): two extra D impressions, one to the north and one tilted. Obverse, Stage A: a very faint crack sits above and right of the designer's initials, and the secondary D is weak inside the primary one. Stage B: the crack now crosses the initials, with light chipping above the D; a light crack runs NE from the ear into the head; and there is a very short NNW/SSE gouge in the field under the first 9 of the date. The secondary D inside the primary has worn away. Stage C: the crack over the initials is heavier, and the ear crack is very heavy, heavily chipped and extends behind the ear. The gouge under the first 9 remains, though weaker, and the secondary D to the north is faint. Reverse, Stage A: a NNW/SSE scratch in the upper right part of bay eleven, and a die chip (dot) in the field centered over the O and N of ONE. Stage B keeps those and adds chips on column one. Stage C keeps the Stage A markers and adds heavy chips on column twelve, plus a chip over the T in CENT, right of center. John A. Wexler submitted Stages A and C, and Diane Gallagher Stage B.
