1959 (D) Lincoln Memorial Cent - Repunched Mintmark WRPM-010

Description

1959-D WRPM-010 is a repunched mint mark on the 1959-D Lincoln Memorial cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. Wexler describes it as D/D/D/D, with the extra impressions South, Tilted, and Tilted: one secondary D to the south and two tilted ones. Obverse, Stage A: E/W scratches inside the top of the ear, and a strong secondary mint mark that shows as a second curve within the primary D. Stage B: the ear scratches have worn away; scratches run NE from the vest and from the forehead; and the secondary mint mark is weak, visible on the vertical bar under the primary. Reverse, Stage A: an E/W scratch through the L in PLURIBUS; a crack that leaves the E in ONE at its upper right and runs ESE, crossing the C in CENT at its left center; a weak ENE crack from that C's left center up to the top of CENT's E, which then turns east along the E's top as far as the N; and another weak crack that starts at the lower right of the E and heads ENE through the D of UNITED. Stage B: a crack on columns one and two, and an ENE/WSW scratch beneath the middle bar of the E in UNITED. Albert B. Raddi submitted Stage A (the photos were updated using a coin from Greg Bowyer), and David Mulberry Stage B. CONECA lists it as RPM #10 and Crawford as CRPM-004, and its Coppercoins number is 1959D-1MM-010. Wexler includes it in its "Best Of" varieties.
