Documented by VarietyVista, this 1956-D VRPM-004 Jefferson Nickel shows D/D Northeast and carries provisional die markers UVC-??? / DMR-00? — indicating the variety was cataloged before receiving final tracking codes. Three stages are tracked: Stage A at EDS (unconfirmed); Stage B at MDS with a die scratch southwest through the first L of MONTICELLO on the reverse and the obverse at LMDS; Stage C at LDS (unconfirmed). The scratch through MONTICELLO provides a clear reverse identification marker. Struck at Denver in 1956 in 75% copper and 25% nickel, weighing 5.0 grams at 21.21 mm diameter, this coin bears Schlag's Monticello reverse depicting Jefferson's Virginia estate.
