1955 (D) Jefferson Nickel - Over Mint Mark WOMM-009

Description

1955-D WOMM-009 is an over mint mark on the 1955-D Jefferson nickel, cataloged by the Wexler team. The D was punched over an S (D/S). On the obverse, just above the eyebrow, left of the lower forehead is a short but strong die gouge. On the reverse, short north-south scratches cross the right arch and Monticello's right side; a scratch links MONTICELLO's second O, at its bottom right, with the top of AMERICA's first A, running SW; parallel SW-to-NE scratches fill the gap from OF's F to that A; on the M in UNUM, one scratch heads SSE from its top right and another SE from its bottom center, together forming a tilted V; and a SSW-to-NNE scratch lies above the left roof.
